Biography
Gillian-Grigg (1933-1992) trained in ceramics at the Royal College of art, London, then worked as a ceramic designer for the Potteries in Stoke before coming to Australia in 1959. She settled at Shellharbour, NSW, and, over the years, taught at the Wollongong Institute of technology, East Sydney Technical College, University of NSW and Sydney College of the Arts, before moving to Brisbane in 1986. During her time in NSW, she was active in the Potters' Society of Australia and also published a book of her paintings and drawings of the Illawarra region in the Rigby Sketchbook series.She was an avid wood-firer, had a strong interest in geology, and excelled in surface decoration. She has entries in the 1974 and 1977 potters' directories and articles by and about her in Pottery in Australia. Her works are marked with an incised 'Grigg' or impressed 'GG'.
